This quilt was created from the original artwork of Ken de la Durantaye

I began this journey on December 4, 2006 & it came to a close on June 14, 2007.  The journal entry I made on January 15, 2007 stands out more than any other.  On that day I wrote, "As I sat piecing block E-2 together I was pondering my significance, how more often that not I feel insignificant.  As I selected which fabric I'd use next it dawn on me that it is more than my hands alone that are bringing this quilt into reality.  As I sat in my studio in solitude today, I started to wonder how many hands have already done their part--hands that have no idea the part they have played.  I thought, there's the fabric designers, the manufacturers, all the hands in the mills, the quilt shop that ordered the fabric, the farmer who grew the cotton, the countless delivery services used just to put this fabric in my hands--then what about all the hands it took to make the thread & how about the sewing machine with all its computerized parts & it's needles, not to mention the electricity needed to make it run.  What about all the tools--the paper & pencils, the rulers & scissors & rotary cutters & mats.  There's also Chuck's hands which made my sewing & cutting table.  And I can't forget Ken, after all it is his artwork I'm using or Kristen who posed for the drawing with her face smashed up against the window.  The list just keeps going on & on with no end in sight.  There is no way I could ever count the number of hands it will take to create this quilt, but only one name will appear on the label, one name will take ownership, so how can I not feel significant, how can I not stand in awe of how God weaves the fabric of all our lives together in ways we can't even begin to comprehend. Without all these hands my name would never make it onto the back of this quilt.  My hands just happen to be the last pair in line."
